Product Composition

Each milliliter contains:

  • Phenylbutazone: 200 mg
  • Excipients q.s.: 1 mL

Pharmacological Profile

Phenylbutazone is a pyrazolone‑class non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It acts by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, supporting the management of pain, inflammation and pyrexia in animals. Its primary metabolite, oxyphenbutazone, exhibits similar pharmacological properties for sustained supportive effect.

Indications

For veterinary clinical use in the supportive management of:

  • Arthritis, tendinitis, muscular and articular rheumatisms
  • Congestive processes
  • Hyperthermia and heatstroke
  • Inflammatory complications associated with traumatic or bacterial conditions (may be used with approved antibacterial products under veterinary direction)

Administration and Dosage

FOR SLOW INTRAVENOUS OR DEEP INTRAMUSCULAR ADMINISTRATION

Horses

  • Adult Horses (IV): 10 mL per 500 kg body weight (4 mg/kg phenylbutazone), twice daily; dosing interval may be daily or every two days based on clinical assessment
  • Foals (IV): 1 mL per 50 kg body weight (4 mg/kg phenylbutazone), twice daily; may repeat at 24–48 hours based on clinical assessment
  • Adult Horses (Deep IM): 10 mL per 500 kg body weight (4 mg/kg phenylbutazone), twice daily on Days 1–2, then once daily for 1–4 days
  • Foals (Deep IM): 1 mL per 50 kg body weight (4 mg/kg phenylbutazone), twice daily; may repeat at 24–48 hours based on clinical assessment

Dogs

  • IV or Deep IM: 1 mL per 15 kg body weight (approximately 13 mg/kg) daily, as directed by a veterinarian

Safety Information

Contraindications

  • Do not use in animals with cardiac, hepatic or renal impairment
  • Do not administer to cats
  • Do not use in animals with hypersensitivity to phenylbutazone or any excipients
  • Do not use concurrently with other NSAIDs, or within 24 hours of other NSAID administration

Adverse Reactions

In horses, deep intramuscular administration is recommended only in exceptional cases, as local adverse reactions may occur.

Withdrawal Period

Treated horses must never be slaughtered for human consumption.

Storage and Shelf Life

  • Storage: Store below 30°C; protect from light
  • Shelf Life: 24 months from manufacture in unopened packaging
  • Shelf Life after First Opening: 28 days
